Before she was breaking YouTube records and making headlines, Addison Rae Easterling was just a normal teenage girl living in Louisiana. Born in 2001, Addison grew up loving all things fashion, beauty and dance related. She started dancing at the young age of 7, and even competed at the national level with her high school cheer squad.
But to earn some extra cash, Addison also babysat “a lot of like middle schoolers.” And it’s a good thing she did – those very middle schoolers ended up introducing her to TikTok! As Addison tells it:
“I ended up getting [TikTok] just because they all had it…I actually only downloaded the app in July, made a post with a friend and literally out of nowhere it got 93,000 likes and I was like ‘whoa, I like this!’”
What started as a joke quickly snowballed for the Louisiana teen. It wasn’t long before Addison was gaining millions of followers across platforms like TikTok, Instagram and Addison Rae Official YouTube Channel. Brand partnership offers came flooding in, and before she knew it, Addison had officially gone viral.
Dancing Her Way to Fame
A big part of Addison’s early success can be attributed to her dance background. With roots in contemporary, jazz and cheerleading, she had the moves that made her an instant hit with TikTok audiences. It also didn’t hurt that her mom Sheri had her own TikTok account with millions of followers. Some of Addison’s first viral moments were dance videos made alongside her mom to songs like Mariah Carey’s “Obsessed.”
As Addison explains, “Our first video that we did together like did really well together and we ended up making a couple more.”
Like fellow TikTok superstars Charli D’Amelio and her mom Heidi, Addison and Sheri proved that talent – and influence – can run in the family on TikTok! Addison’s content with her mom paved the way for what was to come.
Moving to LA and Joining the Hype House
With college plans on hold and her TikTok fame on the rise in late 2019, Addison made the decision to move from Louisiana to Los Angeles. She joined up with the Hype House – “a house where like 14 creators live” – hoping to take her content to the next level.
And boy, did she ever! Shortly after relocating, Addison’s follower count exploded. She hit staggering milestones like 28 million TikTok followers, 9 million Instagram followers and over 1 million YouTube subscribers. Brand deals were now coming in waves for the Gen Z star. Everyone wanted a piece of the Addison Rae social media empire.
Could Music Be Next?
In typical TikTok fashion, it wasn’t long before Addison tried her hand at music as well. Fellow social media star Kio Cyr released a song dedicated to Addison in early 2020 called “Solving My Way.” And guess who makes a cameo appearance in the music video? Addison herself! As she tells it:
“He made a song dedicated just to me…and I was like ‘yeah I’ll be in the music video!’ Went back to the studio filmed it now and yeah my career I was like ‘yeah we got to finish this up.’”
Rumor has it she’s not stopping there either. Sources say Addison has been taking dance lessons from a choreographer who has worked with major pop stars like Ariana Grande. Could a single be dropping soon from the TikTok queen herself?
What’s Next for the Southern Starlet
Between launching her own merchandise line, appearing on talk shows like The View, and racking up modeling gigs, Addison Rae is showing no signs of slowing down in 2024. She already conquered TikTok in record time, has some of the most-viewed YouTube videos, and boasts an Instagram following some A-list celebrities would envy.
And at just 18 years old, Addison’s takeover has only just begun. The Gen Z trailblazer has her sights set on acting next, with dreams of gracing both the big and small screen someday soon. As Addison says, “Hopefully in the next year I’ll be casted in a movie or TV show which would be so insane because that’s kind of like always been my dream.”
Not too shabby for someone who just a couple years ago was just a small-town girl babysitting middle schoolers for extra cash! It seems the days of Louisiana living are far behind Addison now. This rising star is California dreamin’ – and well on her way to becoming a household name.
